Gallente Under Attack In Warpath

Empire Conflict Escalates to High-Sec As CONCORD Protocols Fail

CONCORD’s war response protocols have been disabled, allowing the ongoing conflicts between its member factions to spread from designated Warzones into High-security space. The protocol failure was the result of a cyberattack of unprecedented complexity. The source is not currently known, but the attack was tagged “Warpath” by its perpetrator.

Within minutes of the protocols being disabled, invading forces were spotted across high-sec. Attacks have been made by the Amarr inside Republic space, Caldari inside Federation space, Gallente inside State space, and Minmatar inside Imperial space. The rapidity with which attacks began has made it impossible to determine which force struck first.

All four nations embroiled in what has been dubbed the “Warpath Conflict” are opening up additional mercenary opportunities. Quartermaster Traders in strategic locations have been made available to mercenary forces as each faction attempts to find an edge over its rivals.

Warpath Under Investigation

According to CONCORD’s cybersecurity team, Warpath is a precise attack on CONCORD’s response protocols. This is markedly different from the CONCORD system failure of YC110, which was caused by the destruction of the CONCORD Bureau Station in Yulai. While that event caused a general blackout, Warpath is far more targeted.

The operational details of CONCORD’s alert system are highly classified, but it is known to be based on a wide range of sensory data that is then automatically analyzed, prompting a response. Warpath has disabled that analysis specifically in relation to large-scale maneuvers made by any one of the four empires.

Warpath’s origin remains unclear. The attack has proven to be extremely adaptive in response to countermeasures, allowing it to outmaneuver CONCORD’s technical experts. The only clue to the identity of the attacks' origins is a single line printed across all impacted terminals at the moment of initial attack:

Warpath: A gift, dear Empires. After all, toys are meant to be played with.

The CONCORD Directive Intelligence Agency’s (CDIA) Director Tobias Golsur has assured CONCORD that the investigation remains ongoing, and assured the Scope that “We will not rest until the perpetrator is found, and peace returns to high-sec.”

CONCORD Response Analyzed by Experts

To understand CONCORD’s response to the Warpth Conflict, the Scope sat down with a military analyst and former CONCORD member who chose to remain anonymous.

According to this analyst, CONCORD’s war protocols maintain peace by disincentivising a first strike. If any single nation deploys a fleet into enemy territory beyond their designated Warzone, the protocols alert CONCORD so that they can quickly confront the aggressor. However, with the protocols disabled, CONCORD’s only military recourse would be to arrive late to multiple ongoing battles.

According to our contact, such an action by CONCORD’s peacekeeping force would turn the two ongoing wars into a single five-way conflict between CONCORD and its backing nations. Despite CONCORD’s significant fleet strength, it would struggle to secure victory in an all-out war with all four militaries, and even if it did, that victory would come at a cost of life far greater than the conflict it is intervening in.

This may explain why, instead of trying to enforce conflict limitations, CONCORD is attempting to reignite diplomacy between the Empires. Recent tensions between the Empires had already led to concern within CONCORD before today’s events. A session of the Inner Circle was held earlier this week, but ended prematurely when negotiations broke down. Head of Inner Circle Irhes Angireh has assured the Scope that “the path to peace is rarely easy, but it is a road worth walking. I am dedicated to a return to normal as soon as possible.”
